SUMMARY:Alpine Plant Ecology - International Summer School
DESCRIPTION:Learn more about this event! \nThis graduate course is offered by the University of Basel and the Zürich-Basel Plant Science Center (PSC) for advanced biology students with basic plant science training. The course covers microclimatology\, ecophysiology\, biodiversity\, reproductive biology\, soil science\, vegetation and ecosystem ecology. The course will include lectures\, field excursions and project work. Participation is limited to 24 students. \nThe next course will take place from 16 to 22 July 2023 – Alpine Plant Ecology – International Summer School \nJointly organized the University of Basel and ALPFOR\nCourse Objectives: This field course for PhD and Master students offers an introduction to the functional ecology of alpine plants. It will cover bioclimatology\, soil ecology\, ecophysiology\, functional morphology\, population biology\, reproduction biology\, community ecology and biodiversity. The station is surrounded by a great variety of typical alpine vegetation\, including glacier forfields. \nCourse Program: The course will combine lectures and field work\, with the schedule adjusted to weather conditions for outdoor activities. Participants will also work on small supervised projects\, the results of which will be presented and discussed in a final poster session (both field and laboratory works).

SUMMARY:From Burn to Bloom: Exploring the environmental impact of the 2020 wildfires
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Saturday Aug 19\, 2023 for From Burn to Bloom! \nIn 2020\, our community experienced the largest wildfires in Colorado history. Since then\, researchers at CSU have been working hard to understand how these high-elevation fires have impacted our ecosystems. To share this research with the public\, we invited artists across disciplines to co-create hands-on stations for learning and making.  \n\nGet inspired by the ways nature repairs after fire and reflect on building more resilient landscapes–and mindsets–in the face of an ever-changing climate with the following activities and more! \n\nPaint algal bloom watercolors + learn how fire affects our water quality\nMake rainbow trout block prints + learn how fire influences fish and bugs\nCreate an aspen cyanotype + learn how they protect the forest from fire\nCraft a resiliency charm bracelet + learn about post-fire stream response\nWrite a love letter to the forest on seed paper + learn about post-fire flowers \nPlay in a (simulated) beaver pond + learn how beavers strengthen post-fire landscape\nMake a community tile mosaic + learn about what plants grow after fire \nTake a selfie with Smokey Bear + learn about how you can mitigate wildfire\n\nBe sure to RSVP here!

SUMMARY:2024 Fellows Opportunities Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Register now!Join the Mountain Sentinels leadership team for a virtual discussion of 2024 Mountain Sentinels Fellows opportunities! \nThis Fellowship is developed specifically for individuals living\, working\, or raised in a mountain community\, particularly those underserved or underrepresented in science and STEM. We particularly encourage projects that elevate community voices and address community needs in mountains\, and build/enhance long-term relationships with mountain communities. The Fellowship offers leadership\, mentorship\, research and educational opportunities to students\, youth\, and early career practitioners both within and outside of academia. \nThe webinar will first discuss opportunities\, benefits of becoming a Fellow\, and how to apply. Then\, we will open a Q & A where participants may ask questions or discuss their Fellowship ideas. Find this event in your time zone.

SUMMARY:Moving Mountains Summit (Hatun Tinkuy 2024)
DESCRIPTION:The meeting in Peru is organized by Instituto de Montaña (IdM) in collaboration with the Asociación Bartolome Aripaylla – Ayacucho and the Mountain Sentinels Network based at Colorado State University\, USA. Hatun Tinkuy 2024 will take place in the city of Huaraz in Ancash Province\, Peru. \nThis event is an exciting opportunity to work together to advance sustainable mountain futures and develop a worldwide\, mountain-focused network-of-networks that is rooted in local / Indigenous knowledges and practices. The Summit will focus on braiding local/Indigenous knowledges with western science\, nature-based solutions to climate change\, and local governance.
