SUMMARY:2023 AAG Annual Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Learn more about the event here! \nJoin AAG for this Mile-High and Thousands-of-Miles-Wide hybrid meeting. The term “hybrid” can be interpreted in different ways. For AAG\, it means that individuals will have the opportunity to present and learn from the Annual Meeting in person and online. AAG 2023 Presidential Plenary and other high-profile sessions will be streamed live for all participants\, and some will accommodate both in-person and virtual presenters. Most other sessions will be designated either virtual or in-person. Virtual offerings will offer greater access opportunities for students and those who are not able or willing to travel\, especially from outside the United States. AAG invites you to organize and get involved in sessions\, workshops\, field trips\, special events\, and activities and we look forward to seeing you virtually and in the Rocky Mountains. In addition to visiting this page\, watch for weekly annual meeting Geogram emails and check Facebook and Twitter for updates. \n\n\nRegister now \nAlready registered? \n\nSubmit your abstract or session \nIn-Person Experience:\nPresent in an in-person or virtual session (paper\, poster\, panel) — your choice! \nWatch all live virtual sessions \nAccess all recorded session content for 90 days \nParticipate in in-person sessions\, workshops\, keynotes\, fieldtrips\, and other activities \nInteract with virtual attendees in some select sessions that will accommodate both in-person and virtual presenters. \nVirtual Experience:\nPresent in a virtual session (paper\, poster\, panel) \nWatch all live virtual and streamed in-person sessions \nAccess all recorded session content for 90 days \nParticipate in Presidential and other high-profile live-streamed in-person sessions \nInteract with in-person attendees in some select sessions that will accommodate both virtual and in-person presenters.

SUMMARY:26th Alpine Glaciology Meeting
DESCRIPTION:At its 26th edition\, the Alpine Glaciology Meeting is an annual\, community-building gathering addressing researchers that are active in the field of glaciology.\nWhile the meeting is held on a 5-year cycle in Switzerland\, France\, Austria\, Italy\, and Germany\, it welcomes glacier-interested researchers from around the world. Similarly\, the contributions presented in form of oral talks or poster presentations are not limited to Alpine glaciology\, but encompass other glacierized regions on Earth and other cryospheric disciplines. \nThe meeting nurses an informal and friendly atmosphere\, meant to facilitate scientific exchange between researchers of all career stages. We are convinced that the cosy and familiar atmosphere offered by WSL Birmensdorf will further contribute to a memorable event. \n  \nBegin: \n09 February 2023\, 09:00 \nEnd: \n10 February 2023\, 16:30 \nLocation: \nWSL Birmensdorf\, Englersaal \nOrganized by: \nDaniel Farinotti (ETH/WSL)\, Martin Lüthi (UZH)\, Tom Shaw (WSL) \nLanguage: \nEnglish

SUMMARY:Alpine Towns Conference 2022
DESCRIPTION:The Alpine Towns conference aims to present the main findings from the Ninth Report on the State of the Alps (RSA9) on the topic\, and to discuss its implementation in practice. The conference will take place online and interpretation will be available in German\, French\, Italian\, Slovenian and English. \nThe event is aimed at a wide audience from the international to the local stage: policymakers\, academia\, professionals from spatial planning\, regional economy and environment\, and interested lay persons. The conference is divided into five thematic blocks\, of which you can also attend just one. Registered participants will receive the participation link ahead of time. \nMore than two thirds of the population in the Alps live in urban areas. Yet the topic of “towns” tends to be neglected in the context of mountain areas. With the report “Alpine Towns” and this conference\, we want to focus for once on the Alpine settlement system. This should help to anticipate trends in the Alps so that good solutions for the future can be developed already today. \nFor more details on the Alpine Towns Conference\, check out the link here!

SUMMARY:Building Ethical Partnerships for Indigenous-led Conservation
DESCRIPTION:The Indigenous-led conservation movement has gained momentum in recent years\, thanks to the grassroots efforts of Indigenous leaders and their communities\, and to the milestone report from the Indigenous Circle of Experts: We Rise Together. \nThe report sets out several recommendations for federal\, provincial\, and territorial governments\, environmental organizations\, philanthropy\, and civil society to “build a new relationship on protected and conserved areas” (p10). These relationships must be built through the principles of respect\, responsibility\, and reciprocity – and they extend beyond human relationships\, to relationships with the lands\, waters\, non-human relatives\, and future generations. \nThe Conservation through Reconciliation Partnership was established to act on these recommendations\, bringing together partners to elevate and advance Indigenous-led conservation through reconciliation. \nIn this free session\, we will explore this question and more\, through stories and examples of ethical relationships and partnerships that have been built\, strengthened\, or renewed. \nThis session will be moderated by Dr. Kristi Leora Gansworth (Kitigan Zibi)\, with guest speakers: \n\nSteven Nitah (CRP Leadership Circle and Nature for Justice) and Kevin Smith (Ducks Unlimited Canada)\nChad Luke (Ktunaxa Nation)\, Richard Klafki (Nature Conservancy of Canada)\, and Kerri Garner (Ktunaxa Nation)\nWillard Sparrow (Musqueam Nation) and Nicholas Scapillati (Grizzly Bear Foundation)\n\n\nFor more details on the Virtual Campfire series\, check out the link here!

SUMMARY:MRD Talk #1: Climate change adaptation in mountains: How to close the gap between policies and local realities?
DESCRIPTION:Despite major efforts to promote adaptation actions\, gaps between policies and local responses persist and limit effective pathways toward more resilient mountain communities. Emilie Dupuits and Graham McDowell will present their findings on these rifts and discuss their recommendations with Kevin Kinusu\, Managing Director of Africa Bioenergy Programs Limited\, and Nona Budoyan\, Head of the Climate Policy Department of the Armenian Ministry of Environment\, as well as the audience. The event is an opportunity to jointly reflect on how to make adaptation efforts work better for mountain communities. \nThe event opens the new MRD Talks series\, which is organized jointly by Mountain Research and Development (MRD) and the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) as part of the PRIMA project funded by Austrian Development Cooperation (ADC). \n\nRegister directly:\n\nhttps://unibe-ch.zoom.us/meeting/register/u5IoceGvrjgiHNENwK3-N2CfCx4oSOMN4Gir\n\n\nRead more:\n\nhttps://www.mrd-journal.org/?mrd-talks=climate-change-adaptation-in-mountains-how-to-close-the-gap-between-policies-and-local-realities\n\n\nRead about MRD Talks:\n\nhttps://www.mrd-journal.org/about-mrd-talks/\n\n\nRead about Mountain Research and Development:\n\nhttps://www.mrd-journal.org/
