Integrated Community and Ecosystem-based Disaster Risk Reduction: A New Paradigm for Disaster Management in Complex Systems
We provide an analysis of paradoxes in mountains worldwide that pose challenges for disaster risk reduction (DRR) and recovery, illustrated with examples from the devastating Nepal earthquakes of 2015. We propose a new paradigm for integrated community and ecosystem-based disaster risk reduction as a promising strategy to foster improved DRR and human well-being in bioculturally diverse, complex, and hazard prone systems, such as mountains.
